It’s Still Possible
Sometime during the past two years, it came to my Awareness that “I can’t because…” is a phrase as disempowering as the classic “I’m upset because…”
“I’m upset because…” could be considered the ego’s anthem. It’s a recipe for self-victimization, separation, and unhappiness. It perpetuates the ego’s illusion of the separate self.
The moment in which I Awakened into the Awareness of the insidious and erosive nature of “I can’t because…,” I was initita. I realized how many ways I had been unknowingly and unwittingly limiting myself. I was given a Golden Moment of Awareness—an epiphany. “I can’t because…“ is a way of building prison walls inwardly contributing to a life that feels too small for us outwardly. The repetition of this phrase over… over… and over… reinforces a false narrative of smallness, lack, and impossibility.
Part of what I love about the Olympics is the incredible sense of infinite possibility. It’s intriguing to note, quantum physics suggests the underlying reality of the universe is infinite possibilities. There’s something very inspiring seeing young athletes holding a vision of Olympic gold and devoting themselves to developing levels of mastery.
Figure skating and gymnastics happen to be my two favorite Olympic events. One of my most precious Olympic memories is witnessing Sara Hughes in 2002. Her skate was pure gold. As she surrendered and Spirit skated through her, she was transfigured, as was I, simply through witnessing the Radiance, Beauty, and Grace of her Being illuminated by Light. She truly was a Divine Being having a golden skating experience.
During the recent winter Olympics, Alysa Liu was the embodiment of pure Joy. Yes, she demonstrated technical prowess—that was the subtext—and the signature of her skating was Freedom and Joy. She embodied Aliveness as she glided over the ice and through the air with a Lightness of Being. In fact, her Presence as she skated inspired Ilia Malinin, an extraordinary young man known as the “quad god,” to make a declaration at the end of the Olympics dedicating himself to skating for the Love and Joy of it.
Despite the humbling and possibly even humiliating experience that occurred during the free skate of the Men’s Figure Skating singles competition, he chose to align himself with Essence over form, skating as an expression of Beingness rather than focusing on achieving perfection through demonstrating technical mastery (which he has in great abundance). “I can’t because…” doesn’t seem to be part of their vocabulary.
The first time I read David Whyte’s poem, “It’s Still Possible,” I was simply “god-smacked.” The language and energy of the poetry are an extraordinary transmission from his Soul to mine inspiring a glorious sense of possibility. I’ve been aware for some time that the word impossible contains within it “I’M POSSIBLE”—I AM POSSIBLE. As Christ said, “With God all things are possible.”
Yes, we are living in the Earth School in the duality, and yet we are Divine Beings—Beings of infinite possibility living in a field of infinite possibility. We are Co-creators with God.

IT’S STILL POSSIBLE
It’s still possible to fully understand
you have always been the place
where the miracle has happened:
that you have been since your birth,
the bread given and the wine lifted,
the change witnessed and the change itself,
that you have secretly been, all along,
a goodness that can continue
to be a goodness to itself.
It’s still possible in the end
to realize why you are here
and why you have endured,
and why you might have suffered
so much, so that in the end,
you could witness love, miraculously
arriving from nowhere, crossing
bravely as it does, out of darkness,
from that great and spacious stillness
inside you, to the simple,
light-filled life of being said.
